- Help on permited Rise and Go dimensions - Use the Columns referencing 13 UP for this Staircase

BELOW IS A CHART SHOWING THE RECOMENDED RISE AND GOING DIMENSIONS FOR PRIVATE (DOMESTIC) STAIRCASES WHICH REQUIRE A PITCH NOT EXEEDING 42º TO COMPLY WITH CURRENT UK BUILDING REGULATIONS.

How do i use the chart ?
Well if you look in the column titled Rise you will see a list of sizes these sizes represent the height of each Riser the one i have highlighted is 200mm this is classed as a standard rise height, to the left of this in the column titled Go you can see next to 200mm rise i have highlighted the 223mm going measurent, this is the maximum going size you can use with a 200mm rise height to give you a pitch of 42 degrees. Now if you look in the area titled MAXIMUM TOTAL RISE you can see i have highlighted 2600mm under 13UP this is simply the total rise height of the staircase 13 x 200mm = 2600mm. The next step is to move on to the area titled TOTAL GO you will see that i have highlighted 2676mm in the 13UP column this measurment is the total going of the staircase (or in other words the length along the floor a straight flight of stairs would project) this is caclulated 223 x 12 = 2676. on a normal staircase you need one less going than the number of risers this is because the top riser sits against the trimmer or joist at the top of the staircase.
Important - To give you the true phisical measurment you need to add on the thickness of the top riser (12mm is our standard riser thickness) and the nosing size (our standard nosing size is 16mm) which overlaps the bottom riser. So on your 2676mm you need to add another 28mm to give you 2704mm total.
